‘I think my job is to continue to create an antidote’ - Alma Har’el

Known for the award-winning BOMBAY BEACH and LOVETRUE, the Israel-American auteur’s imaginative approach to filmmaking blurs the lines between documentary and fiction, and fearlessly plunges straight into the heart. Beginning as a photographer and video artist, Har’el creates narratives that explore the unchartered spaces between imagination and reality, sleep and wakefulness. She is making her narrative feature directorial debut with HONEY BOY, in which she weaves a dream world from Shia LaBoeuf’s memories to tell the story of a young man reckoning with childhood trauma. Also an award-nominated commercial director, Har’el founded Free The Bid in 2016, a pledge which asks agencies and brands to include a woman director on any triple-bid commercial project. Since its implementation, there’s been a reported increase of jobs directed by women of up to 400%. In summary, Alma Har’el is a badass.
