I’m constantly modifying myself. There are downfalls to that because you are constantly trying to figure out who you are, but at the same time, I'm blessed with the lack of base paint on the canvas - Chloé Zhao

Chloé Zhao is a filmmaker in search of understanding. Her three films to date, Songs My Brothers Taught MeThe Rider and Nomadland, share an emotional resonance born from the naturalism of the characters and their pursuit of empathy. In each film, just as strong as the bonds of family or between a man and his horse, is the bond of nature - not just between the characters, but between Zhao and her storytelling.

This is perhaps no more true than in Nomadland, starring Frances McDormand as Fern, a woman fractured by the Great Recession, now travelling through the American west in a van, the great resin of nature aiding her reassembly. It is a contemplative film, where pauses are moments of reflection; and light and colour are as much a guide for emotion as dialogue.  Through her craft, Zhao somehow manages to remain constantly in tune with the natural world.

In celebration of visionary filmmaker CHLOÉ ZHAO and the upcoming release of her new film NOMADLAND, we've created two new t-shirts: our classic black on white, alongside an illustrated special edition - in collaboration with Searchlight Pictures & Little White Lies - featuring Fern's van and sunset pink detailing.
