You have to hack, chop, cut your own path. - Carolee Schneemann

In collaboration with the Barbican, we’re celebrating the pioneering artist Carolee Schneemann with a new t-shirt made to coincide with the first major exhibition of her work in the UK.

A feminist icon and vital reference point for countlesss contemporary artists, Schneemann’s interdisciplinary practices examine a huge breadth of topics, from female objectification and sexual expression to the violence of war and human suffering.

Constantly evolving over a career spanning six decades, her work includes action paintings, experimental sculptures, ground-breaking performance work in which she used her own body as a medium, as well as immersive multimedia installations and many beautiful, lyrical films.

Featuring over 200 items and a wealth of rare archive materials, the new Barbican exhibition Body Politics correctly places Schneemann as one of the most provocative, relevant and inspiring artists of both the twentieth and twenty-first century.
