NIA DACOSTA T-Shirt | Candyman Edition
I just want to tell good stories in ways that will shine light on lives rarely seen on screen, because stories can push humanity forward. - Nia DaCosta
New York native writer/director Nia DaCosta is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most coveted directors. Her intimate and absorbing 2018 directorial debut LITTLE WOODS, revised the Western in a refreshing, modern setting - winning the Nora Ephron prize at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival for her bold & spirited storytelling. She’ll soon be helming THE MARVELS for Disney, becoming the first black woman to direct a Marvel film.
Her new film CANDYMAN - with Jordan Peele (GET OUT, US) as a writer and producer - is a contemporary incarnation of the 1992 cult classic. DaCosta injects layers of astute cultural commentary, composed stylish form and a lot of scares in this triumphant update to the horror series - and we’re marking the occasion with a t-shirt emblazoned with the name of the filmmaker and design by Rumbidzai Marilyn Savanhu inspired by the bee imagery that has swarmed the CANDYMAN films and that DaCosta uses to blood-chilling effect in the new film. Don’t say his name: wear hers instead.
